We were so fortunate to find this wonderful guesthouse for two nights in July, on our way from Durban to Mozambique. The incredible design genius in the house is worth a visit all by itself. Hans and Olga have an attention to detail that is stunning. They are both very warm and welcoming. Olga's breakfasts are like none we've had before, each plate is a design to match the house, and so delicious that we are still talking about them. They arranged for a wonderful boatride down the estuary, where we saw many hippos, crocodiles, a fish eagle. The drive through the park is so peaceful and beautiful - and a leopard jumped across the road as we drove ever so slowly - we saw game but not a person on our loop. This is a very special place!!!!!

We had a better time here than we could have imagined. More than the wonderful hospitality of Olga and Hans, it was the house itself that made our stay in St Lucia special. The best way I could put it is, that there is something about living in very comfortable, well proportioned, top-quality spaces, free of the usual narrative of a stage-set-lodge, or cute-Victorian, or self-conscience-funky, that allow the mind and soul to relax completely. It was a perfect springboard for experiencing the magical Isimangoliso park.
Great bed and linens, bathroom, lighting. Wonderful pool.
We hope to visit Serene again one day. Thanks Olga and Hans.

Serene-estate luxury lodge in St Lucia South Africa is a sophisticated and design led guesthouse, that carries the signature touch of its friendly and engaging owners in every detail. The rooms are characterized by spatial openness, modern materials, a subdued colour scheme and ambient lighting - opening up to a garden patio with a view on the wildlife park. Breakfast is beautifully presented and again characterized by detail. This guest house is an asset for St Lucia.

After an amazing tour of the north of South Africa, we thought we had seen it all until we arrived at Serene. Hans and Olgas vision is not only thier dreams realised, but the dreams of every one of their guests. The architecture and artifacts send a clear and clean message into the 21st Century and the incongruity of watching the sculptural lines of the building interrupted by a troupe of monkeys strolling along the stainless steel balcony is an amuse guile to behold. The rooms speak of controlled and thoughtful good taste and design, opening onto lawns and a water feature that doubles as a pool. Beyond this an "invisible" fence discourages the hippos from invading your space. Olgas artistic breakfasts are a step into a 'Gourmet Foodies' magazine, the whole combines to give an atmosphere of complete tranquility. The nearby reserve was also a revalation, yielding more sightings than the Kruger... and infinately more approachable. Do not hesitate, this is an exercise in refinement and good taste, relax and luxuriate, thank you Olga and Hans.

This stylish place gives a unique atmosphere by combining design with African nature. It is quite different than all other bed&breakfasts in St Lucia, as the design is luxurious with minimalist white accents. In the middle of the building there is a beautiful red wall and in the garden there is a lovely terrace with swimmingpool. Right next to the swimming pool is the border of the St Lucia wetlands park and every day we saw dear grazing in the grass. One night we even saw a hippo grazing next to the pool! Amazing place when you enjoy quietness, design and wildlife. Best breakfast in town.

Escaping the Capetown winter with my daughter for a few days we found our stay at Serene just what we needed. Our hosts Olga and Hans made us feel very welcome and organised everything we wanted to do, including a boat trip to see the local wildlife and a day safari. Breakfast was taken outside and included fresh fruit, locally made bread and muffins, yogurt, cheese, cold meats etc. all beautifully presented.
Serene is possibly unique in St. Lucia in it's contemporary style and it offers a high standard of accommodation with attention to detail. The location on the edge of the national park offered interesting visits from some of the inhabitants including deer nibbling at the grass outside our room. Marvellous!!

A beautiful place to stay! The charming and friendly owners tend to every detail themselves, making the quality of the guesthouse impossible to fault. The focus is on minimalstic style, the rooms are huge, super stylish and the bathrooms are amazing. The high light is the swimming pool, which was the best we saw anywhere on our travels in South Africa. Highly recommended and can't wait to return. As the name suggests, we left feeling relaxed and, as the name suggests, serene!
